INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: UNDER COUNTER WATER FILTER SYSTEMS - Crystal Clear Supply, Inc.
1. Find a convenient location under the sink on the cold water side to place the filter. The housing can be mounted to the side wall using the "L" bracket and screws.
2. The faucet should be secured through an existing hole in the sink ledge (such as an old sprayer) or a ½" hole can be drilled in the desired location. If you have a porcelain sink, you might consider having a professional do the drilling, or install the faucet into the countertop, back from the sink ledge. The small rubber gasket, chrome cover and large gasket (used when using larger hole - not needed when installing in 1/2" hole) go on the countertop side. Under the sink, install the metal washer, the lock washer, and then the brass nut, onto the faucet stud. Position the handle where it is convenient for you, and then tighten. Now install the gray quick-connect fitting on the end of the faucet stud - tighten securely. Attach the tubing to the "OUT" side fitting of the filter and then to the faucet fitting. The filter’s fittings are a special high-pressure quick-connect type. To connect, simply push the tubing into the fitting until it is completely bottomed. To disconnect, push down (towards filter) on the outer ring while pulling out on the tubing.
3. Next, install the "Angle Stop Valve" adapter - see separate instruction sheet. Insert one end of the other tubing into the adapter end, and the other end into the "IN" side fitting of the filter.
4. Check all components for leaks.
5. Open the faucet and allow water to run for several minutes to flush out the normal black carbon fines (it will "sputter" until the air is worked out). Initially, the water may appear cloudy - this is due to tiny air bubbles and will clear up shortly. Pushing the faucet handle down gives you a controlled flow; flipping the handle up will lock it for filling pitchers, etc.
IMPORTANT OPERATING NOTES
1. After an extended period of inactivity, allow water to run through the filter for several minutes before drinking. Otherwise, the taste may be bitter due to excess zinc oxide (which prevents bacterial growth and is harmless to drink).
2. Recommended flow rate is one gallon per minute or less. Operating at higher flow rates will not necessarily damage the unit but will reduce the contaminant removal efficiency. The flow rate can be adjusted with the Angle Stop valve. Maximum water pressure is 100 PSI. Maximum operating temperature is 110° F. Protect from freezing.
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO REPLACE MY FILTER CARTRIDGE?
In virtually all cases, the taste and odor of chlorine will return to municipal water when the cartridge has lost its effectiveness. The enclosed test strips (2) can be used to confirm the presence of chlorine. Collect some filtered water into a cup. Dip the test strip into the water sample with a constant gentle back and forth motion for 10 seconds. Immediately note the color change: the pad on the end will turn blue with the presence of free chlorine, the pad nearest the handle will turn green with the presence of total chlorine (chloramines). IMPORTANT: Assess the color within 10 seconds after dipping the strip - the pads become unstable after that and will give a false reading. Additional test strips are available from Crystal Clear Supply (2 for $1.75). While our cartridge has been tested to effectively remove chlorine from over 12,000 gallon of water, the type and concentration of other contaminants varies widely throughout the country. Therefore, to assure maximum effectiveness and the best possible water quality, it is suggested that the cartridge be replaced at least every three years.
Housing and hardware: Five years full replacement. Cartridge: Three years prorated at $1.65 per month of usage.
This warranty does not cover damage due to abuse, neglect, freezing, fire or other fortuitous event. No allowance is made for the consequential damage, labor or expense incurred as a result of a proven defect.
Our units are not warranted against sediment clogging. If the flow rate is significantly reduced, clogging is most likely the cause. Private well, cities with older distribution lines can have high levels of dirt and sediment. You can try to back-flush the unit by reversing the fittings on the housing to temporarily reverse the water flow. You can upgrade your unit to a double housing configuration with a disposable 1-micron sediment prefilter to prevent future clogging. Order part number CK-UCD.
RETURN PROCEDURE - Units returned under warranty must be shipped POSTPAID to Crystal Clear Supply call for details, A photocopy of your sales receipt MUST be enclosed with the unit. A new unit will then be sent.
